Where are the books?

I guess in this digital world it is no longer necessary of even practical for book stores, or even libraries, to stock an adequate selection of research material. We can find it all online, right?! And their response is that they can order it. Well, yeah, but so can anyone else and probably for less money. I know we are supposed to be learning to research from all angles, but it also seems like the most comprehensive information is available through the internet.
I think that the personal interaction and “the experience” of research is on it’s way out…quickly. How are these stores going to compete? What will the point be of having a physical location for a library?

I read an article last year about this very subject, but focused on libraries. The writer had an interesting idea – turn libraries into a sort of community center. Focus on things such as reading to children, create interactive kiosks for learning and sharing.

I’ll try to find it. But its a needle in a haystack at this point.
